Every Monday: Old Time Country Tunes and Barn Dances

March 9, 2009 7:00 pmtoAugust 31, 2009 7:00 pm

Every Monday evening there is an informal get together of San Juan Island country-dance musicians and other enthusiasts. They play, learn and/or participate in Mixers, Squares, Lines, Rounds, Contras, Polka, Waltz, Schottisch, Hambo, and folk dances. Learn, perform, dance or just enjoy watching and hearing a variety of traditional “Barn Dance” tunes and dances, (as demonstrated at the San Juan Island Farmer’s Market and at National Park Service Reenactments.) Strengthen community and friendships on the Island through the spirit of America’s folk heritage and by dancing with everybody in the hall. Benefit from non-commercial friendships and community participation.

Irish Music Camp Concert

March 14, 2009
7:30 pm

ICFor the eighth year in a row, the Theatre gets a ‘luck of the Irish’ treat: so many great musicians at the same place at the same time.

On Saturday, March 14, some of the best Irish musicians in the world will share their talents once again with us when the teaching faculty of the renowned Friday Harbor Irish Music Camp perform on the Whittier stage, playing both solo and in improvised ensembles.

The 2009 teaching staff includes fiddlers Liz Kane, Yvonne Kane and Randal Bays, Roger Landes playing bouzouki and mandolin, Catherine McEvoy playing the flute, sean-nos singer (an old-style, traditional form of Irish singing) Aine Meenaghan, Tom Creegan playing the uilleann pipes, tinwhistler Andrea Cooper, guitar accompanist and song arranger Daithi Sproule and pianist D. Marshall.

The concert’s Business Partner is Paulson Custom Homes.
